Valium (diazepam) is a prescription medicine used for a number of purposes, including treatment of agitation, hallucinations and shakiness during alcohol withdrawal, as well as for pain relief and management of anxiety disorders. Common Valium side effects reported by some patients are: slurred speech, blurred vision, skin rash, loss of interest in sex, drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle weakness, lack of coordination, headache, memory problems, nightmares. If you are taking other drugs that can make you feel sleepy (such as, for example, sedatives, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxers, sleeping pills, depression medicine, seizure medicine, cold or allergy medicine) you should use Valium cautiously as they can add to the feeling of sleepiness you can experience after taking diazepam. Get emergency medical assistance if you have any of these serious side effects of Valium: hallucinations, jaundice, urinating less than usual, hyperactivity, double vision, confusion, weak or shallow breathing, feeling like you are going to pass out, depression, suicidal thoughts, hostility, agitation, tremor, muscle twitching, or unusual behavior.
